Experiencing a traumatic event can be very devastating for an individual and can lead to the development of many different symptoms. Individuals who are suffering with psychological trauma may have flashbacks, terrible memories, and walk around feeling constantly on edge because they feel they are in persistent danger. It can take a great deal of time for an individual to overcome the event and begin to feel safe again.
Trauma can occur, with or without injury, through experiencing an event that completely overwhelms an individual making them unable to cope with the resulting emotions. It may be that the individual experienced a one-time event such as a car accident or natural disaster. It could also have been a result of ongoing life stressors, such as domestic violence. Sometimes as an individual learns better coping mechanisms and how to work through their emotions medication use may be reduced or even eliminated. Medication will be thoroughly monitored throughout your entire stay and adjusted as needed.
Individual therapy is used on an as-needed basis allowing individuals more time alone with a therapist to work though issues that may not be covered in group sessions. Certain topics can be covered in more detail and the individual can also broach any subjects that may not feel comfortable with discussing in group.
Family therapy is an important part of the treatment process as those who have gone through a traumatic event need a good support network. We ensure that your family is provided information about your condition and learn how they can best be of help to you. We will do our best to answer their questions, address their concerns, and provide them with treatment recommendations when your stay with us draws to a close.
Group therapy is our main type of treatment that we use here at Delta. We believe that by connecting with other individuals, you can see that you are not alone in your fight for recovery and that there are others who will help you along the way. We utilize two types of groups – process-based and psychoeducational. Our process groups help you work through issues related to your trauma in a mutually supportive atmosphere.
We also provide several additional services to help you move past your trauma. These include:
- Nutrition and wellness counseling
- Physical therapy
- Recreational therapy
- Daily therapeutic activities
