Memoriam

Cheryl Talley, Executive Director of Behavioral Health Services will be remembered by many as a strong woman who lived her beliefs and gave herself totally to the causes that she supported. She was a pioneer of Chemical Dependency and Mental Health services and she believed that everyone could get better with the right help. She was in every way an advocate for those who were troubled by life circumstances and many patients as well as friends counted her as their north star. Never too busy to help with a problem, she had a real art for turning issues into challenges and she never saw any problem as small. In her early life she became a staunch advocate for Civil Rights and had the honor of marching with Dr. Martin Luther King just prior to his death. An advocate for political reform she rarely chastised anyone for anything, unless of course they failed to exercise their right to vote. She served as a Community Volunteer for United Way for many years and was proud to have built strong relationships with many of the agencies she served. The most tender part of her heart was her family; both her Immediate Family and her Delta Family.  Right behind those folks, she loved her pets, which were always like family to her. She rescued many dogs and cats who gave her unconditional love, just as she offered them. Her sense of humor was a true blessing to those who found great joy in her funny stories and her ability to laugh at herself. Her energy could fill a room and she never went after anything half way. She believed that she could do anything and she encouraged others to believe the same about themselves. She was warm, caring and full of hope. She is irreplaceable in many hearts and her spirit will live on to guide those who loved her best.
